Abstract

The effect of preventing anemia in pigs by applying three different iron preparations to sows i. e. pigs/Ferogen R, Suimiks R, and Fedex R/was investigated on an industrial pig farm in Slanonia. The effect of the preparations was determined on the ground of the following hematologic indicators: the amount of hemoglobin expressed in g/l, the number of erythrocytes per one litre, the of hematocrit, the average volume of erythrocytes /MCH/ expressed in fl, the awerage amount of hemoglobin in an erythrocyte /MCH/ in pg and the average concentration of hemoglobin in an erythrocyte /MGHC/ expressed in percents. The blood was taken from sows and pigs on the 2nd, 3rd, 10th, 14th, 15th, 21st and 26th days after birth from the cave cranialis vein. The results of the red blood cell count show the attained physiological optimum in sows by application of SuimiksR and in pigs only by applying FedexR preparation.
