Abstract

Shoulder dystocia is unpredictable obstetric emergency with incidence from 0.1 to 2.3%. Fetal head traction and Koller-McRoberts (or Gaskins) maneuver is recommended as the initial procedure for shoulder release, followed by other procedures such as Resnik’s or Mazzanti’s suprapubic pressure. When external procedures are not successful the internal or Woods maneuver and Barnum-Swatz’s posterior arm delivery would be used. All these procedures should be carried out by an experienced and skilled obstetrician and obstetric team.
