Abstract
The aim of the study was to investigate the productivity of three grass/red clover binary mixtures (red clover-orchardgrass (CD-KO); red clover – red clover - meadow fescue (CD-LV); and red clover – tall fescue – (CD-TV) and dry matter (DM) yield of each floristic component when cut in different growth stage. The investigated mixtures differed significantly in DM yield (P>0.05). The average DM yield of the CD-KO mixture was 1872 kg DM ha-1 higher in comparison with CD-LV (P=0.01), and 1365 kg DM ha-1 (P<0.05) when compared with CD-TV. Averaged over all mixtures, cutting at budding stage of the red clover resulted in 3288 kg ha-1 and 1164 kg DM ha-1 lower DM yield compared with cutting in the beginning of flowering (P<0,001) and full flowering of the red clover (P=0.003), respectively. The investigated binary mixtures differed significantly in the DM yield of grasses (P<0.001) and red clover (P<0.05). Averaged over all mixtures the DM yields of the grasses and forbs was not affected by maturity stage at cutting (P>0.05). Cutting at beginning of the flowering resulted in highest DM yield of the red clover (P<0.05). There were no significant differences between mixtures and maturity stages in the DM yield of forbs (P>0.05).
