Abstract

Phytoplasmas, earlier known as “mycoplasma-like organisms”, are causative agents of a couple of hundred plant diseases including grapevine yellows. On different cultivars of grapevine in vineyards throughout Croatia, phytoplasmas from stolbur group (16SrXII-A) have been confirmed. Symptoms of phytoplasmosis have also been noticed in the area of Zagreb wine-growing hills, especially on Chardonnay cultivar. Characteristic symptoms of phytoplasma contagion have been described, as well as sensitivity of certain cultivars of grapevine, transmittance of contagion and the most significant vectors, then geographical spread and the way of suppressing phytoplasmosis.
