Abstract

In 1974 results were obtained of investigation of the possibility to apply Pheromon for the following and prognosticating the appearance of some most often occuring pests in our fruit growing cultures and vineyards. By applying Pherotraps with the attractant Codlemone the appearance and the duration of the flight of Carpocapsa pomonella was successfully registerad. As in 1973 the first butterflies of the pest were noticed earlye than by using a lamp and insectarium. Butterflies were also being caught but during a longer time period and the total duration of the butterflies flight did last much longer when Pherotrap was applied than the time period registered at the application of classical methods. The flight of G. funebrana was Pheromon-Funemone, and of G. molesta by Pheromon-Pherocon and butterflies were being caught during the whole duration of their flight. By means of Pherotraps the mass flight of butterflies of the 1st and 2 nd generation could be ascertained by counting them every day though the flight was of a very low intensity i. e. 1-5 butterflies as an average per rap. There were no great differences among individual localities. In the fruit plantations of Vinkovci and Osijek the flight of all observed pests began 1-2 days earlier than in Zagreb. By following the appearance and prognostications of the stated pests under our conditions a longer duration of the butterflies flight was ascetained than when classical methods were applied. In order to make a correct use of this method when applying control measures, it is absolutely necessary to know biology of this pest i. e.one should only avail oneself of the data about the mass flight of butterblies. One should not be qurded by the time of the appearame of butter freres, because the frist butterflies appear much earlier than the time when a danger of their attack is threatening to set in. A low intensity of the apperance of butterflies lasting a considerable time period after their mass flight should also be disregarded because during that period an objective danger does no longer exist. During our investigations the attractiveness of Pheromon was very strong for the males of individual species of butterflies of orchard pests, so this phenomenon can be usefully applied inorder to get a real picture of their appearance in individual plantations.
