Abstract

The cattle production on Kosovo and Metohija is still quite backward according to the average cattle production in Yugoslavia. There are many reasons for this, but the most important are: the breed of cattle in the Region, and the big percentage of cattle which exist on the small, private farms, where is unpossible to keep the management on high level. In spite of this, after the second world war up to now, the improvement was quite big. The greatest contribution to this improvement was from the artificial insemination (that is in practice since 1967, and now, there are about 50.000 heads of different crossis between native and high productive cattle), and the bulls progeny testing. Since 1957 several bulls were tested on the reproductiv ability, and the majority gave good descendants regarding to milk and meat production. The data in this paper are related to 10 bulls i. c. 2 „Danish red“, 4 „Montafon“ and 4 „Simental“ and about 1.000 progenies. They where not degenerative sings on the progenies, what is very important for further work. The majority of progenies was graded „Very good“ and „Exelant“, and this is to expect a slow improvement in the cattle productivity.
