Abstract

The Croatian Bank of Plant Genes (HBBG) as a national project of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was established in 1991. Its establishment, organization and scientific concept resulted from long-time efforts of Croatian geneticists, plant breeders and seed producers in preservation of plant genetic resources for the present and future times. The aim of HBBG is collection, characterization, evaluation, documentation, maintenance and use of plant genetic resources. HBBG is open for collaboration to all interested scientific and professional workers in Croatia. Collaborating on international programs, such as ICPPGR and ECP/GR, Croatia is contributing in worlds plant genetic resources protection and preservation.
