Abstract

The production of seed wheat at the IPK Osijek and "Ratarstvo- Stočarstvo", Osijek from 1991 to 1995 is analysed in the paper according to the varieties and places of selection. Special attention has been paid to the reasons for deciding which areas are not adequate for seed crops. The indicators are compared with the same indicators in the previous five year period i.e. 1986-1990. ln the analysed period 1991-1995 the total of 5,844 ha was sown for seed wheat and 4,916 ha or 84% was recognised as seed crops. Most represented were the varieties of the Institute of Agriculture, Osijek on 2,202 ha or 45%, then the BC Institute for Plant lmprovement and Production, Zagreb on 1,667 ha or 34% and the varieties of the Agricultural Scientific Centre, Osijek and the Agricultural Centre of Croatia, Zagreb on 977 ha or 20%. The most frequent reasons for not accepting an area with seed crops was the high percentage of weeds, particularly quarantine weeds on 64% of area, uneven crops on 17% of area and the presence of off-types on 8% of the area, while the presence of other varieties covered 7% and laying down of crops on 4% of the area.
