Abstract
Newly recognized cultivar of fodder pea is the first Croatian cultivar entered into the National Varieties List. Šampion has been created at the Department for Plant breeding, Genetics and Biometrics, Faculty of Agriculture University of Zagreb. The curtivar is very adaptable to various agroecological conditions and with the proper technology on large areas it yields over 4 t/ha. ln trials and experimental production it yielded over 5 t/ha of dry grain. Depending on technology and growth conditions seed contiains from 28 to 32% of protein placing the cultivar among the best in this part of Europe. On the ground of experimental research, the results of trials by the Variety Commission and the production at large areas the Šampion can well be recommanded to every family farmer.
