Organic agricultural production and labeling in Croatia

Abstract

In the world, the share of organic agricultural production is increasing. USA and European Union are the world biggest market of organically produced agriculutral products. Croatia, being a part of that market, has great potential for growth in this type of production. Croatian regulations are EU compliant so it's organic agricultural producers have full access to european markets. All who wish to engage in organic agricultural production in Croatia, have to fulfill required conditions and use only permitted plant protection products. Their production process is under supervision of meritory control body. If all regulations are implemented and certain predefined time has passed while engaging in organic production, producer is granted a certificate issued by the control body which allows him to label his products as EU certified organic food. There has been a continuing rise in the number of organic agricultural producers in Croatia as well as the total area of arable land which is under organic production.
