Abstract
The role of human communication in contemporary time is discussed in this paper, through the analysis of such phenomena as mother tongue, second language, foreign language, etc. The accent of the paper is placed on the terminological difference between the terms of "foreign language" and "second language", due to the inadequate differentiation of these terms both in theory nad practice. Language and speech, as the main communicational elements of development of historical cultures are here presented within certain frames (psychological, sociological, neurolinguistical, psycholinguistical, etc.). As a particular elements, different affective factors that influence the process of a language acquisition also need to be mentioned here, as well as some of the strategies, which can be used in mastering a language.
