Il fascino delle forme greche a Venezia: Andrea Dandolo, l’arte e l’epigrafia

Abstract
The study deals with the role of Venice in the medieval european context: a special focus is placed on a selection of epigraphic evidences commissioned during the reign of the doge Andrea Dandolo (1343-1354): the inscriptions refer to the gothic system but show a Greek morphological influence. Taking in account the historical context and the relation between Venice and Byzantium, I conclude by emphasizing the links between epigraphy and artistic contexts, and the role of inscriptions as a sort of propaganda media.
