Abstract

This paper gives an overview of anthroponymy of Otočac parish. In the Register of baptism for the city of Otočac and surrounding villages a rich anthroponymic material was found and the analysis of personal names for a period of one hundred years (from the beginning of the 20 century until modern times) was conducted. Many individual names
were studied, as well as diversity among the names, origins, formation of names, spelling features and historical determination of all names with special emphasis on names of Christian provenance. The analysis of records from the Register of baptisms in the specified period led to establishing the collection of personal names that were given to the newborn children (820 personal names), and a considerable number of names of Christian provenance (508 personal names) clearly shows long tradition of raised Christian awareness of the local population.
