Abstract

Operational research is a special field of mathematics that deals with solving problems in order to make an optimal decision. The process is reduced to solving the problem of minimizing or maximizing the object function respect to certain conditions and constraints. A wide spectrum of application of these methods is available. They are most often used in solving problems in the fi eld of economics,
traffic, engineering, maths, psychology, statistics and many others. In the Republic of Croatia, operational research is being studied at universities, polytechnics and colleges to educate a sufficient
number of experts who can help solve problems and make decisions from different areas of human activity. In this paper a review of the course and methods of operational research in public and private higher education institutions in the Republic of Croatia is presented. An analysis of the presence of operational research courses at private and public universities, polytechnics and colleges in the Republic of Croatia is presented. The results of the statistical analysis of collected data are presented.
