Laboratory of environmental geochemistry – an overview of 10 years of existence and activity

Abstract

This paper presents an overview of history and activity in the past 10 year period for the Laboratory of environmental geochemistry, Faculty of geotechnical engineering, Zagreb University. Introduction gives a reflection on the beginning and development of the Faculty of geotechnical engineering. Laboratory of environmental geochemistry, initially named Hydrogeochemical laboratory, was founded in 2006 as a part of the Department of hydrotechnics. Its development includes the foundation of Chemical Practicum. Laboratory of environmental geochemistry has and fulfils its purpose through practical classes. Exercises are on undergraduate and graduate level and on Joint doctoral study programme too. Laboratory also offers analytical services and participates on scientific and professional projectsof Department of hydrotechnics and other departments of the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering. Laboratory analytics includes field and laboratory analyses of water, soil and waste eluate samples using analytical techniques as atomic absorption spectrometry, spectrophotometry, TOC/TN and others. Laboratory provides agrochemical services by which it contributes to controlled and rationalized fertilization and protects our natural resources.
