Abstract

Relatively low number of studies dealing with resistance of phytopathogenic fungi and Oomycetes to fungicides in Croatia is published and publically available. During the last 30 years, several cases of fungicide efficacy loss were recorded in field trials. A decrease in effectiveness was recorded for benzimidazoles (carbendazim and benomyl) in control of sugar beet Cercospora leaf spot (Cercospora beticola), for metalaxyl in control of potato late blight (Phytophthora infestans), for some triazoles and strobilurins in control of grapevine powdery mildew (Erysiphe necator), and for dicarboximides (vinclozolin and iprodione) in control of grey mould (Botrytis cinerea). Resistance of B. cinerea to dicarboximides and resistance of E. necator to IBE fungicide triadimefon were proven in laboratory experiments. Studies on phenotypic variability of B. cinerea in Croatia showed that isolates resistant to pyrimethanil, cyprodinil, fludioxonil and fenhexamid are present in populations of the fungus on grapevine and on strawberry, but in very low percentage. Resistance monitoring on regional or national level is important for achieving rational, effective and sustainable use of fungicides in agriculture.
