New Directions in Danish Crime Fiction

Abstract
Proposing to analyze the crime novels of Danish authors Sissel-Jo Gazan (The Dinosaur Fetather and The Arc of the Swallow) and Jasper Stein (Aisha), the essay contends that the secret of their enormous success with the readership lies in the way they integrate the current issues in Danish society into the generic frame of the crime story. It is the case that the crime novel and the feminist crime novel have become a platform for serious social and political debates, as well as an important segment of the literary construction of and debates on contemporary reality (the problem of national identity, attitudes towards immigrants, the issue of veracity in science, the question of freedom, etc.).
Keywords
