Abstract

This paper presents new forensic methods and measurements that show analysis of security elements on documents and security papers. For the purpose of the paper two samples were selected: a Croatian kuna banknote with nominal value of 50 kn and a special series of
Croatian post stamp “Minerals and Rocks”. The aim of the selected samples analysis was gathering of information in the visual and infrared spectrum and determination of the security level in document and securities design as well as the complexity of the design itself. Design on banknotes is a special segment in the design world which includes light absorption properties of special spot colors and process colors. All elements on banknotes are carefully designed and some of them are created by mathematical methods so they would be more difficult to imitate. Analysis and data recording was done by using digital forensic instrument Projectina Docucenter 4500. This device allows authentication of documents and securities. Analyses are shown at 365 nm in ultraviolet spectrum, while the analysis in infrared spectrum was made at 715 nm, 780 nm and 1000 nm.
