Abstract
The purpose and the main aim of this paper is to give a more detailed explanation of Smart Grids - what a smart network is, its capabilities and the technologies used. The development of a smart grid was started in 2006 by the European technological platform dealing with electrical networks that can intelligently integrate all activities of users connected to the network.
Furthermore, the development of a smart grid provides a number of benefits for the user that make consumption of electricity and use of utilities easy. Integration of smart grids in the current infrastructure requires a comprehensive and long-term study, various tests and pilot projects aimed at simulating the work of Smart Grids. Research of the smart grid concept and work lead to the conclusion that the system of such a network ensures higher reliability, flexibility and efficiency in the work, as well as safety and sustainability. A concrete example of a smart grid, according to application protocol, is ZigBee, a small resources application using protocols that take care of customers to make their everyday life easier by saving energy and water as well as by energy efficiency.
