Abstract

Composite steel and concrete girders have been used in the construction practice for a long time. However, recently a new form of composite structure is being used as well. This new form of composite uses wood instead of steel. The result is composite timber and concrete girders that can be successfully used in many structures – bridges, in buildings and industrial facilities as floor and wall structures. Furthermore, they can be used for replacement or reconstruction of old timber floors in order to meet modern strength capacity and small deformability demands, as well as demands on sound insulation.
