Abstract

The objective of the investigations carried out during the years 2002-2004 on the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture was to determine the influence of seeding date and plant density on some morphological and phonological traits for four grain amaranth cultivars. Research included four amaranth cultivars belonging to different Amaranthus species: G6 (Amaranthus cruentus L.), Plainsman and 1008 (Amaranthus hypochondriacus L.) and Koniz (A. hypochondriacus L. x A. hybridus L.). Investigated cultivars were sown on two seeding dates (first and second decade of May) and in three plant densities: 40, 80 and 120 plants m-2 in harvest. Significant differences among cultivars in 1000 seed weight, plant height and inflorescence length were determined. Plant density influenced 1000 seed weight only in year 2004. Higher plants height and inflorescence length were achieved in lower plant densities. Cultivar Koniz had the shortest vegetation period.
