Abstract

Learning a foreign language, especially the English language, is one of the important parts of the lifelong education. The English language represents undoubtedly the most important language in the business world today. The article presents teaching Business English at higher institutions in Croatia. It explains the basic differences between the terms General English and Business English. It stresses the motivation as a key factor of learning a foreign language, including the need for its lifelong learning and training. The article comprises the answers in the questionnaire conducted among the second-year and thirdyear students at the RRiF College of Financial Management in Zagreb, regarding the courses of Business English. The article states the most common Business English teaching methods, the reaction and the comments of students to the lectures in Business English and
the problems and issues observed in the ten-year-period of teaching Business English. The article also emphasizes the need for the permanent learning of the general and Business English after the completion of the formal education as a very important part of the lifelong education.
