Abstract

The manuscripts of Croatian humanist, diplomat and the Primate of Hungary Anthony Vrančić (1504-1573) are mostly kept in the National Széchényi Library in Budapest. They are kept under the signatures of Fol. Lat. 425., Fol. Lat. 1681., Fol Lat. 422., Fol. Lat. 2380., Fol. Lat. 4005. and Fol. Lat. 4006. In this article, manuscripts of Fol. Lat. 1681. are presented. The volume contains diverse materials, but mostly Vrančić’s correspondence. The greater part of the article is based on the research and analysis of digital reproductions of that volume, but also based on the research in vivo of the original for those places for which it was supposed that they would be less legible on the photographs. Since access to the manuscripts is hitherto difficult by the distance, the authors considered necessary to provide both external and internal description of the volume, its content and history. The volume contains materials within four codices with leather binding and metal buckles. Materials are restored and well preserved, with rare damages, which cause reading of the text. Manuscripts are for the great part written by Vrančić’s hand, that is almost all the first and parts of other three codices. In the appendix at the end of the article is given full content of all four codices with elementary information on each particular letter (addresser, addressee, dating, toponymy and folia) or the document.
