Abstract

How old are the war »hero«, and the »anti-hero« statuses in the history of literature? Is it a twin part? Can we trace it back from the Ulysses’ war wisdom up to the criminal master mind of the Godfather and the mafia boss Tony Soprano? What trace of deriding corruption of the public authorities of a »shadow general« lies in the very center of the historical military narrative if we read it through Aristophanes’ Birds, and what would it be like if we took Shakespeare’s Renaissance tragedy like Titus Andronicus as its means? How long have we doubted every assumption of a possible war heroism? How do comedy and tragedy accompanied by the grotesque combine forest pitts with city tombs and spectacular state arenas over which the coming-of-age by the invented partisan bard Ljiljan Vidić in the film scenario by Zoran Lazić takes place? Are we tired of the schizo-heroes? Has the 21st century finally become the century of the Good Soldier Švejk? The text will take into consideration the possibility of a skeptic approach to every cult of personality, bringing into question the very core of the political production of those who indebted the homeland in a mythologized manner, accompanied by their cultural industry.
