Abstract

Slavonian 18th century writers paid special attention to the selection of words which could become part of the literary language. Like Croatian writers before them, they wanted to eliminate foreign words from the language. They wrote in standard Stokavian. If a word for a certain concept did not exist in Stokavian, they borrowed it from Kajkavian or Cakavian, adapting it to phonetic-phonological rules of the Stokavian dialect.
