Abstract

In this paper, the author reviews the arguments in favour of reproductive cloning. The basic argument is that the ideas generally used against cloning – such as identity, autonomy, dignity, instrumental treatment of persons, etc. – might more justifiably be used in favour of cloning. In that, the author follows Dworkin, Harris and Epstein. The main thesis of this paper is that, in public discussions on cloning, the emphasis should be placed on the question of human rights, especially on the right to reproduce. Regardless of how odious we find cloning; we should justify cloning in certain cases under the provision of the right to reproduce.
