Abstract

Current norrn in Standard Croatian limits the use of the falling accent to the inilial syllable.
The authors reaITirrn the principle of codifying falling accents when these occur in loanwords on
noninitial syllables, including the final, provided such stressing is original and competent Croatian
speakers do speak like that.
