Abstract

Calcium (Ca) is an important element in apple fertilization and it is directly related to the quality of the fruits. Due to the low level of calcium (Ca) in apple fruits, bitter spots occur. Bitter pits are a consequence of physiological disorder when adopting calcium during growth and development of apple fruits. There are many reasons for the appearance of bitter pits, and in modern apple growing it is necessary to take attention all the factors that limit the adsorption of calcium. Modern fertilization practice and selection of calcium based fertilizers can significantly reduce the appearance of bitter pits in apple fruits.
