Abstract

The account indicates the manifold problems of youth language in the german-speaking world, and, apart from that, youth language in general. The question, whether youth language is to be treated as a language in its own right or a mere idiomatic variation of the standard language, is being described in great depth.. An alarming violation and increasing crudity is befalling diction among youngsters world-wide, aided and abetted by the uncontrollable surge of the new media, which are adding a new dimension in the spreading of youth language in an undesirable way. The cultural implications and the social contexts pose further questions which are calling for research and publication. The conflict of generations will persist throughout the ages, but a profound sociocultural aggravation in language will accompany it.
