The Natural Science Department horsefly (Diptera: Tabanidae) collection of the Museum of Slavonia in Osijek - the first part

Abstract
The analysis of the Horseflies Collection (Diptera: Tabanidae) of the Natural Science Department at the Museum of Slavonia has established a total of 2223 items, out of which 32 species classified into 7 genera and 2 subfamilies. There have been 78 species set up in Croatia today. The subfamily Chrysopsinae has been represented by genera Silvius and Chrysops, whereas the subfamily Tabaninae has been represented by genera Atylotus, Hybomitray Tabanus, Haemotopota and Phylipomyia. Out of the total of horseflies 15 males have been established out of which the total of 6 species whereas the rest of the samples were female. The horseflies have been sampled at 104 sites, mostly in the area of Croatia and less in the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Voivodina and Monte Negro. A smaller number of horseflies was sampled in 1985 and in 1991, the majority was sampled between 1987 and 1990.
The collection was introduced in the museum information system M++ and in the museum records under the inventory number MSO-Pr-1746-3968.
The catalogue of the Horseflies Collection includes scientific names for the species and related higher systematic categories. Each species is privided with the data on the site, UTM field, date, gender, inventory number, sampler s name and the name of the person who defined the species.
