Abstract

Starting from the insight that interpersonal communication and face to face encounter are the basis of dialogue, that dialogue presupposes trust and understanding, and that the culture of communication and dialogue ought to be on a significantly higher level in the times of media(ted) and virtual communication, this article analyses the role of interpersonal communication in the contemporary media society, with a special emphasis on pastoral work. Apart from an analysis of the importance of communication as a constituent part of every human being and an analysis of the role of priest as a communicator, this article presents results of a study of attitudes of believers in the Archdiocese of Zagreb on priests. The study shows that believers value their communication skills quite highly. Efficient communication has an extremely significant role in the proclamation of gospel and is one of the key tools of the priest in his daily mission.
