Abstract

A seminar on multimodal transport was held in Zagreb, 20-22 March 1991. It was organized by the Zagreb Bussiness School, UNCTAD, Through Transport Club, Conaust Ltd., and the Maritime Law Institute.
Lectures were held by Dr. Hans Carl of the UNCTAD Secretariat, Dr. Vesna Polić-Ćurčić of the Maritime Law Institute of Zagreb, Captain Eric Bubeer of Conaust Ltd, and Mr. J. Ignarski of Through Transport Club of London. The Seminar was attended by 12 participants from Ministry of Transport, Ports Authorities, Chambers of Commerce, insurance companies and maritime organizations. The Croatian Ministers of Shipping and Trade as well as representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications were present at the opening ceremony.
The aim of the Seminar was to acquaint the participants with the concept of multimodal transport and its effect on economy of a country. During the three-day seminar many legal and economic problems related to multimodal transport were discussed and a number of proposals were put forward for the government to consider. It was suggested that UNCTAD should draft a technical assistance project for Yugoslavia in order to improve the multimodal transport industry in the country.
