Abstract

Open spaces entail private and public spaces characterised by specific conditions of use - exposure to atmospheric influences, specific structural loads and public use conditions. For that reason, it is important to know and understand properties of building materials and principles of their use in order to design and construction processes to result in a durable high-quality materialisation of an architectural concept. The book is primarily conceived as a textbook for students of the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Architecture. However, it can also be used as a manual to architects who practically deal with outdoor space design and construction. The first part of the book gives an overview of basic technical and formal characteristics of the materials used in the construction of different elements pertaining to outdoor space design. The second part of the book deals with main features of structures and elements typically used in outdoor space design.
