Abstract

The aim of this paper is to assess the importance of one parenting program for parents, who were the participants of the research. The program was organized through a model of action research, with the aim of empowering parents to encourage early childhood learning and development in a home environment. Data collection was implemented over the period of seven weeks and involved an analysis of reflexive comments from the participants. The process was documented through the interactions in the workshops as well as through the daily electronic communication. The two main research questions were: (1) Does action research empower parents during the program? (2) What were parents’ experiences for the duration of the program? Based on the results of the research it was concluded that the parenting program empowered parents who participated in the research. It resulted in an increase in parental behavior change that promotes children’s cognitive, socio-emotional and/ or graphomotor development. The parents confirmed they read significantly more often to children and played with them more frequently compared to the period preceding the survey.
