Abstract

The aim of this paper is to point out the best
practices of using gamification to achieve greater
involvement and better motivation for learning
programming languages using online learning
systems.
Basic elements of gamification originates in
the early to mid-20th century in Soviet Union.
Workers were motivated without relying on
capitalist-style monetary incentives - using points,
employee of the month and other game-like
elements. Today, we recognize gaming elements
in a variety of user loyalty programs, and is
increasingly popular in education, especially when
it is necessary to motivate young people to endure
non-trivial tasks such as learning information
technology and / or programming. Skills that
from the very beginning already contain gaming
elements in the form of professional certificates, a
kind of industry-recognized achievements.
Apart from the basic concepts of gaming and
its importance in the business environment, as
well as the overview of tools and principles
present in modern online learning systems in the
programming area, the Treehouse system was
chosen as the most appropriate one. From the
personal perspective of a young graduate, highly
experienced user, gamer and developer.
