Abstract

»Sons of the country« and »fathers of literature« in literary and theatrical adaptations of Slobodan Šnajder, Branko Brezovac and Zlatko Paković have been put on stage against the homogenic ideology of canonic authors or the »homeland champions« of Croatian literature. Šnajder has staged Matoš, Brezovac has chosen Cvetnić and Paković has put on stage Krleža.
All three contemporary authors (Šnajder, Brezovac and Paković) with their theatrical means and parody techniques have stood as witnesses to the homeland as a special type of apocalyptic location and its accompanying literature, where the »older writers« cannon sleep peacefully, but rather continue to »grumble« about a systematic injustice, from their own perspective of »zombies« (neither dead nor alive protagonists).
