Abstract
Implementation of the Croatian Qualifications Framework (HKO) requirements
during the course of the study involves analysing and harmonizing the content of teaching
courses in order to acquire the key competencies of students that will be in line with
labour market needs. The purpose of this paper is to examine to what extent and how are
the study contents in the area of human resource management and labour market and
their connection included in the university studies in the field of economics in the Republic
of Croatia. The methods of critical analysis, case study, comparative analysis,
observation and ECONQUAL research results were used. The authors have come to the
following research results: human resource management skills are one of the key
competencies required by the labour market when it comes to economics studies; study
programs of economics typically include study contents from the field of human resources
management within a separate course but the issue of human resource management is
also related to other, related courses, especially in the field of management; labour
market theory is represented within different courses, but the question of labor market
upgrading, sector labor market analysis and similar issues that lead to a direct link
between the labor market situation and human resources management strategies in
enterprises are not covered by the standard learning outcomes defined by the
ECONQUAL project. This prompted the authors to the following implications: study
programs in the field of economics should be updated, new teaching methods and other
innovations in the teaching process should be applied to a greater extent, to interconnect
the teaching contents of different courses, to dynamise the process of amending the
content of study programs. As the limitations of research the authors point out two
detailed case studies and limitations of the paper only on the question of content related
to the management of human resources and labor market.
