Abstract

The ”Mare-Monti” research project, lead by Idis Turato, was realized in the context of joint development of new platforms of knowledge related to the area surrounding Rijeka and which connect the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb, the Institute for Spatial Development of the Primorskogoranska region, as well as the various initiatives planned within the programs of the European Capital of Culture which Rijeka hosts in 2020. The topic of this design research involving students, architects and researchers from Croatia, Slovenia, Italy and Austria, was the relationship of the city of Rijeka and two potent foci in its vicinity - Platak, a mountaineering and ski resort, and Voz on the island of Krk, a postindustrial flat void with no relationship to the super-turistified surrounding. The various project phases, which involved research workshops, public debates and speculative student designs, were brought together in a book of the same name.
