Abstract

This paper deals with the legal position of successors in the Republic of Croatia with
reference to legal acts and practice in the field of the European Union concerning this area.
First, the legal position of successors in Roman law will be presented in this paper. Then the
legal regulation pertaining to the position of successors in the Republic of Croatia today
will be analyzed and similarities and differences with the legal regulation of this field in the
European Union will be outlined. This implies analysis of all valid legal regulations regulating
the field covered in this paper. Situations referring to the legal position of one successor
and those including more than one successor will be compared. Similarities and differences
will be observed in terms of using things, rights and equitable entities, and independent
disposition of things, rights and equitable entities. The legal position of successors in the
Republic of Croatia will be shown in the last part of the paper and compared with the legal
position of successors in Italy.
