Abstract

Fairy tales, the unusual and magical space, are first listened to, then read and learnt about. Children know about Hans Christian Andersen and his fairy tales even before they start primary school. Andersen's The Ugly Duckling is one the required readings in lower grades of primary school. This paper presents the results of a questionnaire concerning the reception and interpretation of The Ugly Duckling by second-graders.
