Abstract

The article describes the cosmological thoughts of Petar Bakula, mentioned
in the first and second book of his work Pravo mudroznanje za svakog
čovika (True wisdom for every man). Even though these issues are
related to ontological, theological and epistemological issues, an emphasis
is put on the issues related to the world in the light of philosophical
and more advanced scientific outlooks of Bakula’s time. The article gives
explanations of the world as a whole, its order and change, characteristics
of the entities that exist in it, their mutual attraction (gravity),
causality and other issues put out in verse. A special attention is paid to
his teaching about elements, therefore some claims about earth, fire, air
and water are given. A lot of space is also dedicated to elaborations about
light, heavenly bodies and their movement. The role of the impact of Sun
on the life on Earth also has a pivotal role in the text. It is concluded that
Bakula’s work is enlightening in its essence because it tries to explain to
the people of that time more recent scientific discoveries in a way which
is understandable to everybody, and that is the decasyllable.
