Abstract

The sample of 26 matches from the First league of the Yugoslav championship was photographed and analysed with the purpose of determining the structure parameters of shooting and the degree of corelation between variables of shooting (different types and from different types and from different distances) and the final score of the basketball match.
Basic statistic parametres and the regression method were used in analysing results.
The final score of the basketball match depends significantly on the accuracy of shooting from different distances.
The final score is also influenced by efficacy of shooting from distance and by efficient realisation of close- in shots.
The prognosis of the final score can be done with great certainty on the basis of different types of shots. One of the criteria of winning is maximal efficacy in jump shots from distance and also a greater number of jump shots under the basket, smashing and laypus.
The basic strategy principles which can determine winning, congruent with the obtained results, are: organised offensives choosing the surest position for distance shooting, organised offensivnes with the purpose to ensure maximal number of close-in shots and maximal number of counter offensivness, which show the superiority of a basketball team.
The final score, is besides shooting variables, dependent on all other elements of play in offence and defence (number of balls caught in offence and defence, number of balls caught by break, and blocking, types of efficient ball passing , number and types of blocking) and on the players' abilities in group and individual strategy. these basketball elements were not subject of this research.
