Abstract

This paper is a continuation of the article published in the first issue of
Hum. The author describes around a hundred extremely rare examples
of some editions from older Croatian literature, cultural history and science
in general, which can be found in the library of Humac. The real
treasure is certainly a copy of Parisian edition of Matrulić’s Evanđelistar
from 1945, whose copy can be found only in the National and University
Library in Zagreb, as far as these areas are concerned. A special “pearl” is
also a copy of Exemplorum memorabilium cum ethnicorum tum christianorum
e quibusque probatissimis scriptoribus (Venecija, 1621), written
by famous Portugeese theologist and preacher Andrés de Resende from
Evora. Special attention must be also given to the work of famous Neapolitan
scientist Giovanni Battist Della Porta, founder of academy for
analyzing secrets of nature (Academia secretorum naturae) called Magiae
naturalis sive De miraculis rerum naturaliumlibri XX. It deals with
cosmology, geology, optics, crop products, medicine, poisons, chemical experiments
with ores, distillation, glass and its coloring, majolica, features
of magnet, cosmetic products, etc.
