The Role of Regional Differences on Croatian Winemakers Business

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to explore the role of the region on the selected indicators of Croatian winemakers business, while the subject of the research are Croatian wine producers. In order to carry out empirical research, the first part of the paper analyzes Croatian wine industry. For the second part of the research, 124 Croatian wine producers were interviewed. In order for sample to be representative it includes winemakers from all parts of Croatia, all legal forms, and companies of all sizes. Based on geographical, viticultural, technological and overall economic characteristics, the Republic of Croatia in this paper is divided into two regions: Adriatic and Continental region. The business of Croatian winemakers is measured by financial parameters: turnover per liter, turnover per employee, and turnover per hectare, and with non-financial parameter: the ratio of new plantations to total plantations. The results of t-test confirmed the hypotesis. Based on the results of the research conclusion and recommendations for further research were made.
