Abstract
A single family farm in the area of Kupres vaccinated a total of 22 lambs, 20 male and 2 female, aged 9-10 months, with REV-1 vaccine. The farm has a total of 920 sheep and all the animals are vaccinated with the REV-1 vaccine. The lambs that were the subject of the study were targeted for vaccination at the indicated age due to the fact that the vast majority of animals vaccinated in BiH are vaccinated at the age of 8-12 months. The results obtained show that the vaccine in the organism elicits an immunological response, with 100% effect. Specifically, all 22 lambs were serologically negative 6 days after vaccination, and serologically positive after 13 days, which is a clear indication that they reacted to administration of the vaccine. It should be noted that the lambs were isolated in a separate facility and there was no possibility of the reaction being caused by any external factor. At the last sampling, 4 months and 14 days after vaccination, all samples were negative, which means that the vaccine had elicited the reaction in the organism described in its instructions, which state that conjunctival administration produces a mild and short-term serological response, avoiding interference with conventional serological tests to brucellosis, 4 months after vaccination. These results confirm the effectiveness of the vaccine as declared by the manufacturer, even with the deviations in application due to the specific epizootiological conditions of sheep farming in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and question arises of the effectiveness of the practices involved in the brucellosis control program as prescribed in BiH because, despite the proven, declared and achieved effect of the vaccination, the disease continues to occur and spread in animals and humans.
