Abstract

Although there is no written evidence, the church on the Rakovec estate (terra Rokonuc) was probably built, and the parish established soon after the town-fort Rakovec was erected in the 13th century as one of the defence points for the military or Koloman's road, the most important Croatian medieval traffic road. Namely, the Rakovec parish and the St George church are mentioned for the first time in the Parish Listing as late as 1334 (Ecclesia beati Georgii de Rakonnok) – a hundred years or more after the town and Rakovec manorial estate were mentioned.
