Abstract

Forgeries of Austrian banknotes, mostly made by engraving but also by printing techniques, appeared in Croatia too, especially during the 19th and the early 20th century. There were relatively many forgeries of Austrian banknotes, both in Croatia and in Hungary, and many of them were well made, as can be seen from specimens in museum and private collections. The article shows forgeries of Austrian banknotes of 1 gulden (issue 1858), three pieces, and 5 guldens (1859 issue), two pieces, made by engraving, from the Numismatic Collection of the Archaeological Museums in Zagreb, acquired by donation in the early 20th century. The forger(s) of these banknotes is not known.
