Abstract

Some Central and Eastern European countries have a long tradition of older adult education in the form of Universities of Third Age (U3A). This paper is about educational programming – within the most attractive course, art history – at Slovenian U3A. The three-week qualitative research, structured around Opatija‘s female painter and graphic designer Stephanie Glax de Stadler (1876–1952), focused on the relationship between educator and students in content planning. The findings suggest that educator‘s disciplinary knowledge as well as the students‘ previously acquired disciplinary knowledge – and to a certain extent, the students‘ art preferences – are constituent of the dynamic
process of programming.
