Abstract

Social Latin American and Ballroom Dances should be used in primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal, neurological and psychological disorders due to the many healthy effects that have been shown in research on patients suffering from these diseases. The results of the research are presented in 15 studies of the association of social dances and health effects, especially positive effects on chronic diseases. Researchers conducted social dances programs ranging from 4 to 10 weeks, one to two times a week in a period of 1 to 2 hours. Research has been conducted over the past eleven years from 20072018. The studies were conducted by subjects older than 19, equally represented by gender, compared with other types of physical activity and control groups. The effect of dance, which may be insufficiently recognized as a form of physical exercise, as an additional therapy in the treatment of chronic diseases, could in the future be a form of physical exercise in the elderly population that will significantly contribute to maintaining mobility and decreasing cognitive abilities
