Abstract

Preservation of library material is an integral part of library management. Priority of every library is to provide quality services to its users and for that it is necessary to have collections that are usable and in good condition. However, library collections deteriorate under the influence of various internal and external factors. Research shows that almost 80 % of damage is caused by human interaction, whether deliberate or not. Preservation education of staff and users is very important in safeguarding library collections. The aim of this paper is to describe the importance of preservation education and give several examples.
